On Wednesday, December 12, members of Women United gathered in the spirit of giving at Highland Brewing to wrap nearly 1,500 books for local school kids.
The wrapped books were donated by local residents through a partnership with Barnes & Noble at the Asheville Mall. This event marks the sixth year for United Way’s Book Drive and the fourth year in partnership with Barnes & Noble. The drive will continue at the Barnes and Noble Asheville location through the end of December and donated books will be distributed by United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County to local programs serving youth and public schools. United Way would like to extend our heart-felt gratitude to Barnes & Noble for all of their support and for partnering with us to bring the love of reading to area students. We would also like to thank Capstone Health Alliance for their generosity in making a $1,000 matching gift to this year's Book Drive. In addition, we would like to recognize first time Women United Sponsor, Webb Investment Services, whose engagement makes events like the wrapping party possible, Highland Brewing for providing a fantastic atmosphere and everyone who braved the cold and ice to come out and give back.
Since its founding in 2013, local Women United members have raised more than $100,000,000 to help in the fight for the education, health, and financial stability of every person living in Asheville and Buncombe County.
