With support from Indigo Innovation Group and key community stakeholders, United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County (UWABC) is pleased to announce the creation of a new Community Engagement department and a new, senior level position to lead this work.
The Vice President of Community Engagement will lead our organization in
- Building authentic relationships and trust, particularly in communities with lived experience of poverty and injustice
- Identifying, amplifying, and uplifting grassroots initiatives and leadership aligned with UWABC’s vision, mission and focus
- Driving broad community participation in decision-making, volunteerism, and other UWABC experiences
This announcement is one in a series of steps that UWABC is taking to solidify our commitment to upholding equitable and inclusive practices, which will both guide and push us to learn from, listen to, and work with community residents—particularly in communities of color and those with lived experience of poverty, marginalization, and injustice.
This work will also offer a framework for UWABC to hold ourselves accountable for adhering to our own guiding principles of Collective Wisdom and Equity at the Center.
