Jo Jamison

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am a parent to two young children and have been working with kids, teens, and youth for over a decade in a variety of settings: from alternative high schools to therapeutic boarding schools, wilderness therapy, and nonprofits. I have a Master's in Public Affairs from WCU where I focused primarily on nonprofits.

Give us a glimpse into your role at United Way. How do you help us fulfill our mission? What are you most excited about accomplishing as a team?

Collective impact is relational work. My career has always involved building relationships across WNC and I deeply value the interconnectedness of this region, within and across counties. I look forward to continuing to deepen those relationships and bridging gaps while always centering the heart of our collective focus - our youth!

What’s your favorite thing about our community?

There's no shortage of passion and drive to accomplish our respective goals. Working collaboratively, it's amazing what this community has overcome and can accomplish, together.

What would we find you doing when you aren’t at work?

One of the many family-friendly festivals and activities, community and partner events, at a live show or museum, and out on the trails.

Do you have any podcast, book, music, or movie recommendations?

Why Fish Don't Exist (book); On Our Watch (podcast); Nimona (movie); The Warriors (concept album by Lin Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis)

Tell us about any committees or associations you are a part of and/or awards/recognitions you’ve received.

Currently a proud board member of the Different Strokes Performing Arts Collective - support local theater! I am also a UWABC representative for both CoThinkk and WNC Nonprofit Pathways.
