Swannanoa Strong: Our New Video Highlighting Community Partners after Helene

If you live in and around Buncombe County then it is most likely that you have heard of the devastation Hurricane Helene brought to the Swannanoa area. Whether you saw the ruins of houses and littered river with your own eyes or heard the horrific tales coming out of the area it’s clear that Helene left behind more than just physical destruction—it left a community grappling with unimaginable challenges. In the face of this desolation, however, individuals and trusted UWABC partners like Beth Trigg stepped up to take charge of a section of recovery and relief.

In our newest video shared above, Beth recounts the harrowing moments her neighbors endured to survive and, more importantly, the extraordinary ways the Swannanoa community banded together in the days that followed. From coordinating relief efforts to delivering essentials, Beth activated her neighbors to help those hardest hit.

United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County (UWABC) was proud to play a small role in Beth's work during this critical time. With support from our Hurricane Relief Fund—made possible by generous donors—we gave Beth pre-loaded gift cards to distribute directly to hard-hit individuals and families. This furthered Beth's already significant reach to her neighbors.

“My friend Sarah from United Way has been a person to call when I’m like how am I going to do this and we need, we need, we need and she’s been able to help me,” Shared Beth, “We know that United Way has our back and we’re so grateful for that.”

Whether in disaster recovery or everyday challenges, UWABC’s commitment to supporting our neighbors is unwavering.

Watch Beth’s story now and see the incredible strength of Swannanoa, fueled in part, by your support.
